Movie Theaters

Movie Theaters is another name for a Cinema. In the countries like, New Zealand, Australia, North America and United Kingdom, the cinema is called the movie theatre. Some of the countries know the cinemas as the pictures, movie houses or the movie theatres. Movie Theaters are buildings where motion pictures are shown. Most of the movie halls are to cater ordinary people who want to watch movies. Tickets need to be purchased for entering the Movie Theaters. A film projector is used to show the movie.

The image is reflected on the huge projection screen and it is erected in front of the auditorium. Some of the modern Movie Theaters are also equipped to help the audience watching digital movies with the help of digital cinema projection mechanism.

Traditionally movie theaters used to be almost similar to a stage theater, consisting of one single auditorium where rows of comfortable seats were arranged for a comfortable movie viewing. The lobby area of each of the cinema hall used to have a box office where tickets were sold. There used to be the Movie Theater employees from whom people bought the tickets. Self service facilities of ticket purchasing were there in some of the movie theatres. There were counters for buying snacks and drinks from and wash room. The basic structure of the Movie Theaters has remained almost the same. Looking at the popularity of movies some of the theater stages have already been converted to Movie Theaters. It is not at all difficult. It is all about placing a screen at the front portion of the movie hall and fastening a projector at the back. These kinds of transformation can be made as a temporary change or for a permanent one.

The owner of the AMC Theatres or the American Multi-Cinema, Stanley Durwood pioneered multiplexes in the year 1963. This was a part of his business strategy as he realized he could manage his work force in away that they can operate a number of theatre and movie halls simultaneously. Since then, multiple screen theatres are in vogue.

There are multiple auditoriums where single lobby is shared by several auditoriums. Soon single screen theatres were completely out of fashion. The words, “theater” and “cinema” can also mean a single auditorium or an entire complex. In that case the auditorium is the “screen”. At the same multiplex, the same movie can be shown at the same time at all the auditoriums simultaneously. This definitely reduces the choice of movies for the movie goers, but this is quite profitable for the multiplex owner. Previously the multiplexes used to have two to three screens. Now the modern multiplexes have at least 6, 8, 12 or 14 screens.
